Terms of use

The short version: it’s free, it’s guidance rather than legal advice, and you’re responsible for what you sign.

Using the site

You can use this site and the documents it makes for free, for yourself or for a child you have parental responsibility for. Please don’t use it in a way that harms the site or other people, such as sending automated requests or asking it to email people who haven’t asked for a copy.

Not legal advice

The guides explain how deed polls usually work. They aren’t legal advice for your situation. If yours is unusual or disputed, get proper advice.

Your responsibilities

You’re responsible for the details you enter, for signing the deed poll properly, and for being entitled to make it. Don’t make a deed poll for a child without the agreement of everyone with parental responsibility, and never use a change of name to deceive or defraud anyone.

Whether it will be accepted

Most organisations accept unenrolled deed polls, but each one decides for itself, so we can’t promise that a particular organisation will accept yours.

Availability and liability

We work to keep the site running and accurate, but we can’t guarantee it will always be available or free of errors. We aren’t liable for losses that come from using the site or the documents it makes, except where the law doesn’t allow that to be limited.
